  • Cough, cough, sniffle sniffle

I’ve been out of it for two days just hanging out on the couch with a terrible cold.  I’ve never watched so many reruns of crime shows!  Not much else on in English. We were going to go to Lucca yesterday but didn’t make it and today I didn’t even get out of my Jammie’s. Joey has been great at looking after me. In her spare time she visited the Pitti Palace and gets out for walks daily.  Hope she doesn’t catch this. So, nothing to report. Just wanted to check in.  Now I’m off to bed. Night!

  • Busy Day

    Busy Day

We had a busy day of walking yesterday but last night I thought it would be nice to go out and see what the nightlife is like in our neighbourhood.  A walk along the river gave us images of the buildings we have come to know so well in the daylight, now in the night light.  What beautiful images they were.  The streets were lit up to ve almost like dusk instead of late night but the sky and water were black.  Lights shone on both sides of the river spaced closely together so they made almost a spotlight.  The…

  • I Have To Share!

    I Have To Share!

I left Joey at home today for a couple of hours as she was doing laundry and I went for a stroll along the river – my favourite place.  The day cooperated with no wind, giving the water a glassy finish. I  walked for a long time and snapped pictures as I went, stopping to sit on a bench once and again to enjoy a cappuccino and muffin. A glorious, almost cloudless day.  I had to share my favourite pictures.  I  am not proud to say that the twins are no longer my screen saver – shame on me!

    A Photo Opp

Oh my goodness, but the time gets away from me.  We’ve been all over the city exploring and by the time we get home, I’m just too tired to write. From all the complaining about riding the buses, you’d think that would be the last thing we would want to do, but, we do feel that the Hop On Hop Off bus is the best way to get to know the whole of the city so that’s what we did.  It was the best choice we made.  The first line we took, got us to the top of a hill…

    Taking It All In

It’s 1 AM on Sunday morning and I can’t sleep for some reason, so I am taking this time to catch up on my writing.  It is currently raining and it’s lovely to hear it on the roof. The Saturday night party goers were out on the streets earlier singing and making noise however they could and the rain must have sent them inside because it is quiet out there now.  An occasional die-hard wanders out, probably from a pub nearby, singing at the top of his voice but he quickly quiets down. We had a wonderful first day exploring the streets…

  • I’mmmm Back, Italy

    I’mmmm Back, Italy

Leaving behind the memories of a month in Valencia, we embarked on an unexpected adventure to Florence via Pisa. Plans changed due to a train strike, leaving us to navigate the chaos of buses and unfamiliar surroundings. Despite the challenges, we finally arrived at our lovely apartment in Florence, ready to explore the city.

  • Did I Tell You The One About The Bus?

Did I Tell You The One About The Bus?

We took the day after our trip to the Albufera Park and relaxed at home and started packing and organizing for our trip to Italy on Friday and Jocelyn for her trip home.  We are trying to eat up all of our leftovers so our meals have been a bit unusual but still healthy and delicious – as delicious as leftover pizza from the night before and Ritz crackers for breakfast can be. We did go for an evening stroll, though, and found many stores opened that had never been during our day walks through the neighborhood.  It was a…

    Noisy Trees and Kitten Cuddles

The last time we were downtown, we considered buying tickets to visit the Albufera Nature Preserve, south of Valencia. The tickets were 17 Euros ($25) for a two-hour trip with no stops along the way, and it also included a half-hour boat trip. However, we decided against it as we wanted more time to explore the area. While we were at Josep’s flat for lunch the other day and shared our plan with him, he suggested taking the city bus for 1.50 Euros and purchasing the boat trip separately when we arrived. That’s exactly what we did today. Along long…

  • Last Hurrah

    Last Hurrah

This week is a week of last minute “things to do” that we missed over the last three weeks.  It’s hard to believe that in four more days we will be off to Italy and out of Spain.  We are tired but amazed at how much we did and saw. We had a nice surprise when our host, Josep, who always responded to our e-mails when we needed him, asked us to his place for lunch.  We hopped the subway and he came to meet us and take us to his “tiny” flat as he called it. It was lovely…

  • This And That

    This And That

We had a day of shopping and wandering the streets, once again, in Old Town with a lovely lunch at a sidewalk cafe.  Joey and I ate healthily and then there was Jocelyn! The pictures say it all. We found new shops to wander into including all kinds of basketry shops making everything in ratan from chairs and elephant heads to cactus and yes, baskets.  Another area of a street featured everything made from wood.  There are truly some talented craftsmen in Valencia.  Joey finally got to go into the huge Cathedral and although there were a wedding, a mass…
