We Have Arrived!

It’s been a very, very, long day but we finally arrived at our lovely flat in Valencia, Spain an hour ago – 30 hours of little sleep and well over the 10,000 steps I plan to do each day. We had many laughs along the way but they got to be fewer and fewer as we became more tired.  I was lucky to be able to sleep on the planes but Joey wasn’t so lucky.  All of our flights ran on time but sitting for 9 hours from Vancouver to Paris was hard on these old bones.  It took us 3 hours to go through customs in Paris and we only had 6 hours total until our next flight so we didn’t feel we had time to see any of the sights in Paris.  Instead, we hung out at the airport people watching and shook our heads at the prices of a cup of coffee or a bottle of water – some places charging 4 Euro or about $6 each. I didn’t need coffee that badly.  The Charles de Gaulle airport is enormous and we asked 3 people for directions to the terminal we needed only to end up in the exact spot we started!  We finally found an information station and were sent on the right path.  I have been to the Rome airport and thought it was big and hard to get around but CDG wins hands down.

Tomorrow we plan to just have a short outing to find the food market and a cafe to enjoy a pastry and good cup of coffee for breakfast, unpack and rest so we are ready to go after that.

Our host, Josep, met us at our flat and what a lovely young man he is.  After walking miles all day long, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it up the 3 flights of stairs to our rooms.  We were both dripping wet as the humidity here is very high.  Josef turned on the air conditioner for us and brought us cold water right away and a huge bowl of fruit was waiting on the table so we don’t have to go out again tonight to buy food.  We poured over maps with him as he pointed out everything we should see, the bus and metro routes and shopping places. He has also invited us to his flat for a beer one night before we go home so he can practice his English which is pretty good any how.  Much better than our Spanish.

So, I’m off to the shower and then into bed.  It is 9PM here so hoping we get on the right schedule for sleeping.

No pictures to share today…but I will get on it tomorrow.

Night!
