Jocelyn has been to Spain many times but not to Valencia so the first outing we took her on yesterday was to the old part of town to wander the streets and shop. There were so many people out and about and Joey thought maybe it was because the weather had finally settled into more bearable temperatures. Jocelyn had a great idea for something that we could do next week that we all agreed would be great fun but we had to find a place to buy tickets and when we did, I took a picture and the smile on their faces says it all. More to come on that when it happens.
I had heard from someone that the best place to get gelato in town was at the Plaza de la Reina so after a quick lunch at a sidewalk cafe, we headed that way. We only had to ask for directions once but we got there. So many flavours to choose from, but we made our choices, sat down on a bench in the square and people watched as we licked our way through our creamy dessert.
And then the bus trouble started again! Will it never end? I boarded first, swiped my card and no problem. I swiped it again for Joey and it beeped with a red light. We tried a few more times and it just didn’t work. The bus driver jabbered at me in Spanish which, of course, I understood none of so I just shrugged. Joce was still standing outside during all of this and he finally hollered at her to get on so he could go and continued to try my card as he drove…to no avail. I had to get Jocelyn’s card to tap once more and we were off. When I got home I checked my card on line and it looked fine but I’ll have to make yet another trip back to the Tobacconist place to sort it out. We stopped for a few more things at the grocery store before heading home and Jocelyn now knows what we mean when we say “the dreaded stairs”.
We had happy hour followed by a great supper of pasta and meat sauce with salad and bread, and of course wine. We spent some time on our computers – we do a lot of that – and then played some cards before a bit of TV and then bed. A pretty good day for Joce’s first in Valencia.
Three geeky grandma’s below.

This morning we had a lazy start but when we were ready we headed out the BioPark and walked the trails for a bit. What we think are tree frogs, sang (if that’s the right word) high above our heads in the trees, bikes zoomed passed us in the bike lanes and many people strolled on a beautiful day. We sat and rested along the way to just watch people and take a break for water and to rest our hips and legs . Getting old sucks sometimes. We headed to the huge grocery market that we had been to earlier but wanted to go back to. We only picked up a few things but were in the store for a long time as it’s hard to find things, partly because items aren’t where we are used to them being back home, and partly because we can’t read the labels. We looked for sour cream but never did find it. On our way out we passed through the Burger King to see how alike it was to ours and we spotted a Blizzard sale for 2/3Euro and thought it was a great deal, so of course, we had to try them. They weren’t quite like ours but still good and the hamburgers and chicken burgers were much the same. We were just saying that all of you back home are going to be wondering why the heck we are eating at Burger King when we are in Spain. Just because we can is why!

Now, as I write this, Jocelyn is getting our supper ready as it’s her turn and Joey is reading on her i-pad. We may go for an evening walk. And that’s it for today.
