This and That

We are certainly getting our walking done each day. No matter how many times we get out, we find new things to see, new people to watch and new stores to shop in.  It’s been fun discovering and we are trying to take everything in during our last few days here.

The day we were at the Duomo, we were handed a pamphlet advertising a symphony at St. Stephen’s Auditorium. When we got home, I checked it out on the internet and it sounded intriguing so we ordered tickets for this evening.  We are seeing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and we are both excited for a big night out. We thought we’d take a trial walk to the building yesterday so that we aren’t trying to find it in the dark tonight. We found it easily and quickly and had plenty of time to explore some more but first,  lunch.  Cafes, pastry shops, and restaurants are abundant here so we chose a quiet street with a tucked away cafe to enjoy our meal. We chose an omelet bun that sounded delicious but it was more like a pancake inside a dinner roll and I didn’t finish mine.  We did have a good laugh though as Joey was reading the menu.  The picture below shows the menu.  Look for Vodka under W. Cute.

Motorcycles and mopeds are the most common form of travel in Italy and I snapped a good picture of a “parking lot” full of them.  They are parked so close together that we are not sure how riders get on and off them in such a small space but somehow they do. Speaking of bikes…we get such a laugh out of watching people on their peddle bikes doing everything from smoking and talking on their phones, to holding an umbrella and eating and carrying large objects. Why we have never seen a car accident or accident of any kind on any type of vehicle is beyond us. Joey did have a close call when she was lightly touched by a car mirror of a passing car while she was walking on the sidewalk.  That gives an idea of just how narrow the streets are and how much room there is to walk. We often have to leave the sidewalk and walk along the curb as people gather to talk and don’t move.

I forgot to mention that the other night Joey treated me to dinner at a Chinese restaurant not far from our flat.  It was a cozy little spot with only about 8 tables and we had it all to ourselves. We ordered four different dishes and although it wasn’t what we are used to at home, the flavors were unusual but delicious and we ate every morsel. Thank you again, Joey, for the memory.

Joey is off to see David this morning and I went off to do last minute shopping and stopped at my favorite cafe for an Americano coffee and croissant.  I’m going to miss the place!

We have started packing and are trying to use up the last of our food as the countdown to home is fast approaching. I am looking forward to a hot, full force shower, a comfy bed, and a Timmie’s coffee, to name but a few things.  We have so often said how much more we appreciate what we have at home and probably won’t take for granted again. Oh, Bailey’s is another thing I miss!
