Elevating Our Adventures

I recently bought myself a drone and I’m looking forward to taking it with us to Norway. It will allow us to get a fresh perspective, so to speak.

A short test video I took flying the drove over my house and the park behind us.

I’ve wanted to get a drone for a while now. I use them regularly for real estate listing photography and videography, but until now I’ve always hired someone for the service. Moving forward, however, I’ll be able to do my own. With our trip less than two months away, this seemed like a perfect time to get some practice in before we leave. And I do need practice! This thing may be tiny (it’s only 1/2 a pound) and packed with amazing technology, sensors, 4K video and more. But, despite all that, there’s definitely a considerable learning curve! I’ve spent a few hours already flying around our park, taking it out to a relative’s farm and even practiced flying it indoors! And so far I’ve managed to only run into one person (sorry, Renée! 😬). I’m getting the hang of it, though. I should have plenty of experience by the time we go.

I’m also now licenced to fly a drone in Norway. I’ve taken the necessary pilot competence course through Luftfartstilsynet (The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority) and can now legally fly my drone anywhere in the European Union. In Canada, thanks to different laws and because of the tiny size of the drone (249 grams), I don’t actually need to get a licence. There are still a million rules to follow about where and how to fly safely, but no licence required.

Another short test. I took this at a farm near Devon.

Sharing the Journey Through Video

I’m excited to add this drone to my photo/video arsenal. Norway seems like the ideal place to get some stunning aerial footage… from sweeping coastal panoramas to picturesque little towns. I’ll be bringing my DSLR camera, my iPhone (which surprisingly sometimes takes better photos than the DSLR), and now the drone. Aaaand some extra batteries. And lenses… filters… a tripod; memory cards; some charging cables. Also, an external drive. Oh, and, of course, a laptop to handle all the editing and posting. Whew!! The challenge now will be figuring out how to pack it all! 😅
