Rest and Read

Being awake at 2:30 AM I had lots of time to reminisce about our travels to get here and all the modes of transportation it took for us to make the journey.  A car ride from home led us to a ferry ride to Vancouver, a bus and train ride to the airport, a flight to Paris followed by one to Valencia and finally, the subway, before walking to our flat..a total of 30 hours on the “road”. No wonder we are exhausted today.

I must tell you about our flight from Vancouver to Paris o n Air France.  Within 2 1/2 hours of take-off, we were served 2 cold drinks with a snack and a tasty dinner of either lobster and pasta or curried chicken.  Soon after clean up we given an ice-cream bar and shortly after that, a hot drink.  About 2 hours before landing we were served a nice breakfast and then a pastry to top it off. Air Canada should take some lessons!

We enjoyed a wonderful strong cup of coffee this morning.  After drinking it I took a look to see if hairs were growing in places they shouldn’t be.  Shopping around our neighborhood for groceries and supplies has been fun as we don’t live in the central tourist area but among the locals, so communication has been a challenge.  Every corner brings a greengrocer filled with loads of fresh produce and smiling shop owners who are only too willing to help us.  The neighbourhood grocery store brought a whole new range of smells and sites.  We could find all sorts of strange meats and fish but finding peanut butter was another thing.  The wine we purchased for dinner is now, we decided going to be used for cooking wine.  You get what you pay for!

We are always glad to come home to the air conditioning, but the thought of climbing the 4 flights of stairs, which we told was 3 flights…they don’t count the ground floor as 1…is always daunting.  Hoping by the end of our stay, we will be conditioned to it.

Joey made us a wonderful dinner from all the fresh produce we bought and we sat and made a plan for tomorrow.  Going to be in the mid 30’s tomorrow and 39 on Sunday. We shall perservere!

Below is a picture of the terminal at Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris – it’s all we got to see of this beautiful city.

Well, Cheryl, you’ll be able to stay longer in Yuma with dealing of temperatures in the high 30’s the mid 30’s should be a breeze. Is this temperature your experiencing the norm? I did hear on the news last night that Edmonton might get snow for the long weekend so enjoy your time in the sun. It’s raining out here at the lake and is cool but the hot chocolate and Bailey’s is fixing that HaHa.The shopping for groceries sounds wonderful, wished you could bottle the smells and send them along to us. Love Janice
